30/April/2023 - Drowning Incident - "A', "B" & "C" Shifts

Rescue crews from Fire-Rescue, the Sheriff's Office, DNR and the Coast Guard, spent three days on the Edisto River searching for a 5 year old girl that went missing Sunday evening around 19:37. The child was in the water with other children when the current took her down stream and under the water. She was not wearing a floatation device. Sunday evening, crews searched the area around Mars Old Field Landing with boats equipped with sonar, lights and thermal imaging equipment. Divers attempted to search in the swift, debris filled waters until dark, but conditions became unsafe. Click here for additional information.
23/April/2023 - Burn Patient with Air Evac - "B" Shift

Fire-Rescue units responded to a residence in the 5400 block of Jefferies Hwy, (US Hwy 15) Sunday afternoon 23-April. At 17:02, 9-1-1 was notified of a man being burned after a LP tank reportedly exploded. The man received multiple burns over several areas of his body, some of which were third degree. Firefighter-Paramedics quickly treated the man at the scene, then transported him emergent to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center. He was transferred to the CARE Flight crew, then flown to the Burn Center at MUSC in Charleston. Click here for additional information.
22/April/2023 - Motorcycle MVC w/Air Evac - "A" Shift

An adult male received multiple traumatic injuries and a head injury in a motorcycle accident on Mount Carmel Road at the intersection of Weans Road Saturday night 22-April at 21:43.  The driver lost control of the southbound Harley Davidson motorcycle in a 90 degree curve. He was found approximately 30 feet from the motorcycle by a passing motorist. He was not wearing a helmet. Firefighter-Paramedics from Station # 26, located a short distance from the scene, arrived quickly and began treating the man. His condition deteriorated within a short time, so a medical helicopter was requested. Click here for additional information.
21-April-2023 - Keep Colleton Beautiful Litter Pickup

Fire-Rescue crews, in cooperation with Keep Colleton Beautiful, Palmetto Pride and Regional Earth Day, collected litter along a 1-1/2 mile stretch of Peniel Road Friday morning 21-April. Crews spent two and half hours picking up litter and collected 33 bags of trash on the rural road. Several County Departments participated in the event and cleaned up several rural roads in the county. 17/April/2023 - Dirt Bike Accident w Air Evac - "B" Shift

At 16:52, Monday afternoon 17-April, an adult male was injured in a dirt bike accident in the woods off of the 1200 block of Hendersonville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) south of Walterboro. Responding crews had to walk down a footpath to reach the man. Despite wearing safety gear and a helmet, he suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man in the woods and requested a medical helicopter. Click here for additional information.
16/April/2023 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift

A Round O family was displaced following a fire that destroyed their home Sunday evening 16-April. At 20:27, 9-1-1 received several reports of flames coming from the home at 50 Lemuel Ave near Round O Crossroads. The callers advised everyone was out of the house. The occupants rescued several animals, including dogs, snakes and rodents. Engine 9 arrived to find the single story, wood frame dwelling approximately 50% involved, with fire coming from the front and rear of the building. 16/April/2023 - High Speed Fatal MVC - "C" Shift

A Florida man was killed and four other people were injured, in a high speed, two vehicle MVC on I-95 near the 45 mile marker southbound, Sunday morning 16-April at 01:38. The accident occurred at the Combahee Rd overpass and blocked both southbound lanes. It appeared a southbound Chevrolet Malibu veered off of the highway and struck a guardrail disabling the small car on the dark stretch of rural interstate. The driver exited the car. A southbound Jeep approached and attempted to avoid the black Malibu which was in the travel lane, but the cars collided.Click here for additional information.
14/April/2023 - National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week 

Fire-Rescue and several other agencies recognized our local Telecommunicators during the second week of April. Fire crews provided lunch to the on duty dispatchers Friday 14-April. National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is held annually during the second week of April to recognize these vital public servants. The 9-1-1 Center, operated locally through the Sheriff's Office, is the first point of contact for person's requiring emergency assistance from Law Enforcement, Fire-Rescue or Animal Services. Click here for additional information.
13/April/2023 - PRTC Recognition
PRTC and Fire-Rescue recognized Adam Spooner, a PRTC employee, whose action last week resulted in saving a Cottageville family's home and their pet dog. The event was held at 12:00 on Thursday 13-April at the PRTC Business Office on Robertson Blvd. On 10-April, Spooner was working at a Peirce Rd. residence, when he heard the smoke alarms sounding at home next door. He investigated and discovered the house was on fire with smoke coming from the eaves. Click here for additional information.
14/April/2023 - Flight Paramedic Certification Announcement

Congratulations to Firefighter/Paramedic Elissa Gerard for obtaining her Flight Paramedic Certificate (FP-C). Gerard is assigned to the Station 1/6/13 rotation.
13/April/2023 - Sword Attack - "C" Shift

A 10:37 Wednesday evening 12-April, Fire-Rescue and Walterboro Police units responded to a residence in the 300 block of Chaplin St for an adult male who was injured in a sword attack. WPD Officers cleared the scene and advised the patient was bleeding profusely from a head wound. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man for several deep lacerations to the head which required multiple dressings. Crews administered IV solutions and TXA to compensate for the heavy bleeding. Click here for additional information.
10/April/2023 - Structure Fire - "A" Shift

An alert PRTC employee and neighbor saved a Cottageville home and the resident's dog Monday morning 10-April. At 10:44 PRTC employee Adam Spooner was making an installation in the 5900 block of Peirce Rd. He and the neighbor heard the smoke alarms sounding at the residence next door. The neighbor was aware the occupant was not at home. Both went to investigate and found smoke coming from the doublewide mobile home. A canine was in the smoke-filled home, so Spooner forced the front door of home and the K9 quickly exited. The dog was not injured. Click here for more information.  
09/April/2023 - HazMat Response - "C" Shift

At 17:42, two tractor trailers collided at the 42 mile marker southbound on I-95 just north of a previous fatal MVC. One truck was hauling hazardous chemicals, some of which were carried in containers on pallets. The impact caused the load to shift, damaging approximately 7 of the containers, several of which began to leak. The product spilled onto the highway. State Troopers were still on the scene of the previous accident and blocked the Interstate, rerouting traffic up the exit ramp to Lowcountry Highway (US Hwy. 21). Click here for more information.
09/April/2023 - Fatal MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift

A Hardeeville woman was killed in a single vehicle, high speed MVC on Interstate 95 near the 42 mile marker southbound, Sunday afternoon 09-April at 15:03. The driver advised he swerved to avoid another vehicle, when his GMC Sierra pickup truck went into the median and struck several trees. The truck received massive damage which trapped the female passenger. A large pine tree was pushed into the dash. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts. The driver was able to exit the vehicle and received non-life threatening injuries. Click here for more information.
05/April/2023 - Fatal MVC with Ejection - "B" Shift

A Georgia woman died in a single vehicle MVC on Interstate 95 near mile marker 56 southbound, Wednesday afternoon 05-April at 12:30. The southbound Chevrolet pickup left the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned multiple times before landing on the driver's side near the wood line. The unrestrained driver was ejected from the truck and thrown approximately 40 feet. The woman was found unconscious in critical condition with multiple traumatic injuries. Several bystanders stopped to provide assistance. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the woman at the scene and requested a medical helicopter. Click here for additional information.
04/April/2023 - Mutual Aid MVC - "C" Shift

Fire-Rescue responded to Interstate 95 near the 68 mile marker SB as a mutual aid request for Dorchester County Tuesday morning 04-April at 00:10. The accident was just north of the Edisto River at the Colleton/Dorchester County line. A large motorhome collided with a tractor trailer causing a large debris field. The motorhome turned sideways on the highway blocking the southbound lanes. Diesel fuel covered the roadway. There were reported multiple injuries and multiple cars were on both shoulders. 02/April/2023 - Moped vs Car MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift

An adult male was critically injured when the moped he was driving collided with a SUV at the intersection of North Jefferies Blvd and Bells Hwy. Sunday morning 02-April at 09:14. The moped driver was not wearing a helmet, was thrown approximately 40 feet where he struck the concrete and a metal pole. He suffered a severe head injury and other traumatic injuries. Several bystanders stopped to render aid to the injured man. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later and treated his many injuries. Click here for additional information.
01/April/2023 - High Speed MVC with Partial Ejection - "C" Shift

A Jacksonboro man was seriously injured in a single vehicle MVC on Green Pond Hwy (SC Hwy 303) just south of Rivers Street Saturday morning 01-April at 01;27. Another motorist drove up on the accident and reported it to 9-1-1. The southbound Chevrolet Impala appeared to have been traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control in a curve. The small car spun around backwards, left the road and struck several trees, trunk first. The rear bumper was pushed to the back seats. Click here for additional information.
