02/April/2023 - Moped vs Car MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift

Incident # 23-02386 - An adult male was critically injured when the moped he was driving collided with a SUV at the intersection of North Jefferies Blvd and Bells Hwy. Sunday morning 02-April at 09:14. The moped driver was not wearing a helmet, was thrown approximately 40 feet where he struck the concrete and a metal pole. He suffered a severe head injury and other traumatic injuries. Several bystanders stopped to render aid to the injured man. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later and treated his many injuries. A medical helicopter was placed on standby. He was transported emergent from the accident site in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center, then transferred to the Flight Crew. CARE Flight flew the man to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The Walterboro Police Dept. is investigating the accident. 

Medic 1, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 111, Car 112 and WFD responded. WFD served as Incident Command.
