09/April/2023 - Fatal MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift

Incident # 23-02568 - A Hardeeville woman was killed in a single vehicle, high speed MVC on Interstate 95 near the 42 mile marker southbound, Sunday afternoon 09-April at 15:03. The driver advised he swerved to avoid another vehicle, when his GMC Sierra pickup truck went into the median and struck several trees. The truck received massive damage which trapped the female passenger. A large pine tree was pushed into the dash. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts. The driver was able to exit the vehicle and received non-life threatening injuries. The passenger suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was deceased at the scene. The Coroner's Office was notified and responded. Once their investigation was completed, Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Hydraulic Rescue Tools to extricate the passenger. Both passenger side doors, the "B" post and a portion of the dash was removed to free the victim. The Coroner's Office transported her from the scene. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Southbound I-95 was down to one lane for about one and half hours causing traffic to back up over five miles. 

Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 13, Battalion 1, Car 105, Car 111 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as Incident Commander.
