05/April/2023 - Fatal MVC with Ejection - "B" Shift

Incident # 23-02468 - A Georgia woman died in a single vehicle MVC on Interstate 95 near mile marker 56 southbound, Wednesday afternoon 05-April at 12:30. The southbound Chevrolet pickup left the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned multiple times before landing on the driver's side near the wood line. The unrestrained driver was ejected from the truck and thrown approximately 40 feet. The woman was found unconscious in critical condition with multiple traumatic injuries. Several bystanders stopped to provide assistance. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the woman at the scene and requested a medical helicopter. CARE Flight was already in the air responding to another incident and diverted to the scene. They arrived within five minutes and landed on the highway, however the patient went into cardiac arrest and could not be flown. She was placed in Fire-Rescue Medic 19, then transported emergent to Colleton Medical Center. Additional Fire-Rescue personnel and the Flight Crew assisted during the transport to the ED. Unfortunately, she did not survive her injuries. Traffic on I-95 was down to one lane for over an hour and backed up several miles. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
