Incident # 23-02778 - At 16:52, Monday afternoon 17-April, an adult male was injured in a dirt bike accident in the woods off of the 1200 block of Hendersonville Hwy (US Hwy 17-A) south of Walterboro. Responding crews had to walk down a footpath to reach the man. Despite wearing safety gear and a helmet, he suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man in the woods and requested a medical helicopter. They splinted and treated his injuries, then transported him from the woods in a Fire-Rescue 4X4 pickup truck back out to Medic 1. CARE Flight landed at the nearby driving range and Medic 1 transported the man to that location to rendezvous with the Flightcrew. He was flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center for additional treatment.
Engine 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1, Car 103, Car 104, Car 105, Car 107 and Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Michael Banks served as Incident Commander.
