27/June/2020 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

A Smoaks man was displaced following a fire that heavily damaged his home Saturday morning 27-June at 02:06. Engine 7 arrived to find the singlewide mobile home approximately 40% involved. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed one 1-3/4 handline and quickly knocked down the flames sparing about half of the structure, however the remainder of the home suffered substantial heat and smoke damage. Very little of the personal items were salvageable. The fire appears to have been electrical in nature and started on the north end of the mobile home. Click here for more information.
6/23/2020- Our condolences go out to Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy and his family on the death of his mother, June McRoy.  Due to the COVID19 pandemic, the family has decided to hold a private service; however, a memorial service will be planned for a later date, once it is safe to congregate again.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Presbyterian Church of Edisto Island, 2164 Hwy 174, Edisto Island, SC 29438 or Thornwell Children's Home, 302 S Broad St, Clinton, SC 29325.

22/June/2020 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

A Walterboro family was displaced following an early morning fire in their mobile home at 212 Chestnut Road Monday morning 22-June. At 01:19, 9-1-1 received a report of a home being on fire at this location. Engine 19 arrived several minutes later to find heavily smoke conditions and flames coming from the windows on the front of the singlewide mobile home. All of the occupants were able to safely exit the structure prior to the arrival of Fire-Rescue. Click here for more information.
6/21/2022- Our condolences go out to Ms. Adrienne Stokes with Fire-Rescue and her family on the death of her uncle, Pastor Emeritus Reverend Robert L. 21/June/2020 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

A singlewide mobile home received damage after an electrical fire spread to the wall, carpet, curtains and nearby furniture in the home Sunday afternoon 21-June. At 15:23, Fire-Rescue responded to the incident. The occupant was awakened to smoke in the residence and found the items burning. They threw out most of the burning items and pushed a window a/c unit out of the home preventing more damage. Everyone exited the home and no one was injured. 21/June/2020 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Firefighter-Paramedics saved a home in the 100 block of Ulmer Lake Dr Sunday morning 21-June. At 06:29, 9-1-1 was notified of a residence on fire at that location. Engine 1 arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the two story residential dwelling and flames coming from the rear of the structure. Crews deployed multiple handlines to the building and quickly knocked down the exterior flames at the rear of the home. The fire originated at the back of the living room and appeared to be electrical in nature. Click here for more information.

14-June-2020 – MVC with entrapment and Air Evac – “C” Shift

An adult female received multiple traumatic injuries in a single vehicle MVC in the 2500 block of Red Oak Road north of Cottageville Sunday afternoon 14-June at 13:41. The Chevrolet Colorado pickup was traveling north on Red Oak Road when it crossed into the southbound ditch and struck a stump. The vehicle became airborne and landed approximately 100 feet away in a front yard, flipping over at least three times. It came to rest on the passenger side. The female driver was wearing a seatbelt and was trapped in the wreckage. Click here for more information.

14/June/2020 – Transfer Station Fire – “C” Shift

At 12:33 Sunday 14-June, 9-1-1 was notified that the County Transfer Station at the Landfill was on fire. Battalion 1 arrived to find heavy smoke visible from the two story high metal building. Engine 1 set up in front of the facility. Multiple handlines and a Blitzfire monitor were set up to combat the fire. A drop tank was set up in front of Engine 1 for water supply and Tenders refilled from a pressurized hydrant two miles from the scene. Upon further investigation it was found that only garbage inside the building was on fire and the structure was not involved. Click here for more information.

13/June/2020 – Structure Fire with injuries – “B” Shift

A 28 yr. old man received second degree burns over approximately 40 percent of body following a fire at the Lively Stone Temple located at 1406 Lively Stone Road south of Ashton Saturday afternoon at 13:47. The man and serval other church members were conducting grounds maintenance when a lawn mower was stored in a storage building. Witnesses advised the unit was being refueled when an explosion occurred spreading fire to the building and igniting the man’s clothing. Other members assisted the injured man and called 9-1-1. 13/June/2010 – High Speed MVC – “B” Shift

Six people were injured, two severely in a two vehicle high speed MVC on Interstate 95 at Exit 42 northbound Saturday morning 13-June at 08:13. The vehicles collided just north of the exit causing both cars to enter the woods. The Subaru struck several trees and overturned on it’s side. The Honda drove deeper into the woods and also struck several trees. Both cars received heavy damage. An off-duty Firefighter-EMT from Station 13 had just finished his shift and drove up on the accident immediately after it occurred. Click here for more information.

10-June-2020 – Auto Pedestrian MVC with Air Evac – “B” Shift

A 71 year old Smoaks man was critically injured after he was struck by a car in the 800 block of Sizemore Road Wednesday 10-June. The man received multiple traumatic injuries, including head and facial injuries. The accident was reported at 08:19, but it is possible the man had been in the ditch for sometime before he was found. The car that struck him did not stop. Firefighter-Paramedics treated him at the scene and called for a medical helicopter to respond. CARE Flight was landed in a nearby field in Johnsville. Click here for more information.

09-June-2020 – Moped MVC with Air Evac – “A” Shift

A 41 yr. old Walterboro man was injured in a reported hit and run MVC in the 1200 block of Burlington Road Tuesday evening 09-June at 21:25. The man advised he was riding his moped on Burlington Road when he was struck by a car. The car did not stop and left the scene. The man was found with multiple traumatic injuries lying in the roadway. Firefighter-Paramedics treated him at the scene and placed a medical helicopter on standby. Click here for more information.

09-June-2020 – Structure Fire – “C” Shif

A 20 x 12 picnic shed was heavily damaged in an early morning fire in the 11500 block of Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61) Tuesday morning 09-June at 04:03. Initial reports indicated the home was on fire, however first arriving units found the fire was isolated to the picnic shed, located about 20 feet from the home. The residence was not damaged. Firefighters used two handlines to douse the flames. The fire was quickly brought under control. It appeared the fire started in the area of a refrigerator located inside the building, then spread to the walls and roof. Click here for more information.

07/June/2020 – Motorcycle MVC with Air Evac – “B” Shift

A 25 yr. old male received multiple traumatic injuries after his motorcycle crashed into a wooded area in the 1200 block of Oregon Road Sunday evening 07-June at 20:02. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene, then transported him emergent to a nearby field to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter. He was transferred to the Flight Crew without incident and flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. Click here for more information.

07/June/2020 – Fatal MVC with Air Evac – “A” Shift

One man was critically injured and a second man died from injuries received in a single vehicle accident in the 2500 block of Possum Corner Road Sunday morning 07-June at 00:06. The men were traveling southbound on Possum Corner Rd in a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria when the car dropped off of the shoulder in the 2500 block. The driver overcorrected and the car slide sideways into a large pine tree causing heavy damage to the passenger side. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. A 36 yr. old male received multiple traumatic injuries and was found unconscious in the car. Click here for more information.

04/June/2020 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

A single family dwelling in the Town of Lodge receive damage from a fire started from an electrical wire. Fire-Rescue was dispatched the home in the 8500 block of Lodge Hwy at 21:04 when a neighbor reported smoke coming from the home. It appeared an electrical wire shorted out starting some towels on fire which damaged a water heater, an appliance and the vinyl siding on the back porch. A firefighter extinguished the fire using a portable fire extinguisher. The fire was contained to the back porch.  Light smoke was found inside the residence. Firefighters used a PPV Fan to force smoke from the building. Click here for more information.

03/June/2020 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

A single story residential dwelling in the 9600 block of Augusta Hwy received moderate damage after a fire occurred in the attic Wednesday evening 03-June. At 20:37, 9-1-1 was notified by the homeowner that there was smoke in the residence. Fire-Rescue units arrived to find light smoke in the living space. The occupant advised a contractor had been working on the home earlier. Crews searched the building using thermal imaging cameras and located a fire in the attic area, including smoldering insulation. Several rafters had been burned through. 03/June/2020 – Fatal Motorcycle MVC – “A” Shift

A Walterboro man died from injuries received in a motorcycle accident in the 200 block of Bomar Lane Wednesday evening 03-June at 19:58. The man was operating a 2006 Hayabusa motorcycle traveling east bound on Bomar Lane when he failed to negotiate a curve and crashed into the ditch. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived within minutes from Station # 1 located two blocks away. They found the man unconscious in the ditch. Click here for more information.

03/June/2020 – High Speed MVC – “A” Shift

Three people were injured in a single vehicle MVC in the 2300 block of Cannon Road Wednesday afternoon 03-June at 19:15. A northbound Ford Pickup truck dropped off of the right shoulder, over-corrected, entered the southbound ditch and struck a ditch embankment. The truck received heavy damage and the three unrestrained occupants suffered multiple injuries. Two Fire-Rescue ambulances responded to the scene. An adult female suffered head and facial injuries and an adult male also suffered facial, but non-life threatening injuries. Click here for more information.

02/June/2020 – Fall with Air Evac – “C” Shift 

An adult male received a head injury after falling approximately 12 feet off of the roof of an RV at a campsite on Jefferies Hwy near Canadys Crossroads Tuesday 02-June at 16:35. Witnesses advised the man was unconscious after falling. Firefighter-Paramedics found the man with suspected severe injuries and requested a medical helicopter. Crews immobilized the man and transported him to a nearby field in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter. He was transferred to the Flight Crew without difficulty and flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Click here for more information.

6/2/2020- We offer condolences to Battalion Chief Joey Campbell and his family. His Grandmother Laurette Bassett passed away peacefully 31-May. Please remember Chief Campbell and his family in your prayers. Graveside services will be held Wednesday 03-June at 11:00 at St John’s Baptist Church, 2468 St. Johns Church Road, Ehrhardt, SC. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary between 09:30 and 11:00.
