31/March/2017 – Structure and Woods Fire - “B” Shift

One home was destroyed and 16 hunting dogs perished after a large woods fire spread over 50 acres Friday afternoon 31-March. A neighbor reported hearing several explosions and saw a large plume of black smoke in the vicinity of the 9700 block of Sidneys Road. Upon investigating, he found the residence located at 9738 Sidneys Road well involved and notified 9-1-1. Click here for more information.

26/March/2017 – Multi-Acre Woods Fire – “B” Shift

Over 100 acres was burned and one home was damaged in a large multi-acre woods fire that began at 1254 Nunuville Road Sunday afternoon 26-March at 15:22. Engine 19 arrived to find a fast moving woods fire threatening several structures. A structural response was requested adding three additional stations. High winds rapidly pushed the fire in a westerly direction toward Burlington Road endangering other homes. Click here for more information.

24/March/2017 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

A Ruffin family of six were displaced following a structure fire at 7434 Ruffin Road Friday evening 24-March at 22:20. The family advised they smelled smoke earlier before discovering flames coming from the roof and front porch. Engine 18 arrived to find the single story wood frame structure well involved with flames coming from the roof, at the front and rear of the building and from several windows. All six occupants, two adults and four children, escaped without injury.  Click here for more information.

23/March/2017 – MVC with Ejection – “C” Shift

An adult female was critically injured in a single car MVC on Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63) just east of Rentz Drive Thursday afternoon 23-March at 16:25. The west bound Chev. Malibu flipped over several times before coming to rest in the west bound lane. The unrestrained driver appears to have been ejected through the sunroof. Firefighter-Paramedics found the woman suffering from multiple traumatic injuries lying in the roadway. Click here for more information.

19/March/2017 – High Speed MVC – “B” Shift

Three adults and a child were injured in a two car head-on collision in the 17600 block of Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63) near Moles Lane, Sunday afternoon 19-March at 12:16. Firefighters found the highway blocked by the two cars when they arrived. Both vehicles suffered heavy front end damage and all of the occupants were out of the vehicles. 12/March/2017 – Fatal MVC with Ejection – “A” Shift

Three people were injured, one fatally, in a single car MVC near the 6800 block of Sidneys Road Sunday afternoon 12-March at 15:25. The 2005 Subaru Impreza was traveling north on Sidneys Road when it left the roadway at a high rate of speed. The car traveled down a small embankment, struck a stump and began to flip over several times, before striking several trees. Click here for more information.

10/March/2017 – Woods and Structure Fire – “B” Shift

A Forestry Commission reconnaissance plane spotted a woods and structure fire in the area of the Roadside Community Friday afternoon 10-March at 15:31. Fire-Rescue units searched the area and found the fire in a field at the end of Ferguson Lane, a single lane dead end dirt road. The fire was inaccessible to fire apparatus. 10/March/2017 – MVC with Entrapment – “A” Shift

Two men are lucky to be alive following a high speed tractor trailer MVC on I-95 at the 55 mile marker northbound, Friday morning 10-March at 06:21. The north bound truck struck the bridge, then went down an embankment into the median. The vehicle struck several trees before coming to rest in the swamp. The front of the trailer failed, propelling the load of cabbage onto the cab, destroying the truck and trapping the two occupants. Click here for more information.

09/March/2017 – Woods Fires – “A” Shift

Multiple woods fires kept Colleton and Forestry Commission Firefighters busy most of Thursday 09-March. Fires occurred in several areas of the county burning mostly woods or grass. Many homes and one church were threatened. A storage building at 6495 Rehoboth Road was destroyed when a grass fire burned up to the building. The small building was well involved when firefighters arrived and was destroyed. The largest fire occurred in the 1100 block of Bazzle Road north of Cottageville and involved 115 acres. 08/March/2017 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

A large workshop was destroyed in an afternoon fire at 2257 Mount Carmel Road Wednesday 08-March at 13:56. The caller to 9-1-1 reported a trash fire had gotten out of control and spread to the building. Engine 26 arrived minutes later to find fire at the rear of the approx. 50’ x 160’ structure and deployed handlines to the building. 08/March/2017 – High Speed MVC – “C” Shift

A single vehicle accident injured three adult males Wednesday morning 08-March at 09:38. The vehicle was fleeing Law Enforcement after a reported bank robbery in Bamberg County. When the car reached the 11100 block of Augusta Hwy., just west of Sidneys Road (Grubers Crossroads) the driver lost control, left the roadway and flipped over several times. 05/March/2017 – Auto Pedestrian MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 17-01454 – An adult male was transported to the Trauma Center at MUSC after he was struck by a pickup truck in the 1800 block of Hope Plantation Road Sunday evening 05-March. The man reported was thrown into the windshield, then to the ground landing approximately 20 feet from the truck. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries in the collision. Firefighter-Paramedics from Engine 2 and Medic 6 treated the patient at the scene and during transport to Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.  Engine 2, Medic 6 and Car 107 responded. Commissioner SG Drew served as Incident Commander.

05/March/2017 – Fatal MVC with multiple entrapments & Air Evac – “C” Shift

Two people died as a result of a three vehicle high speed MVC in the 21000 block of Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61) at the intersection of Horseshoe Lake Circle Sunday afternoon 05-March. The accident was reported at 13:55. Apparently a southbound pickup truck crossed the center line and sideswiped a northbound Chrysler, then struck a northbound Ford Expedition head-on. 04/March/2017 – Structure Fire – “B” Shift

A suspicious fire destroyed a doublewide mobile home at 1669 Sunrise Road east of Smoaks Saturday evening 04-March. At 21:03, while Firefighters were engaged with a structure fire in the south end of the county,  9-1-1 Operators received several reports of a well involved residential fire at the corner of Sunrise Road and Bertha Lane. Engine 7 arrived to find the remains of a doublewide mobile home. Click here for more information.

04/March/2017 – Structure and Woods Fire – “B” Shift

Windy and dry conditions continued to contribute to fast spreading woods fires over the weekend despite Red Flag conditions issued by the State Forestry Commission. County and State Forestry Commission Firefighters were busy most of the day Saturday with woods and grass fires throughout the county. One control fire in the 2000 block of Hickory Hill Road reignited and spread to a barn on the property Saturday evening. Click here for more information.

04/March/2017 – Annual Emerg. Services Softball Tournament

 

Fire-Rescue sponsored the 6th Annual Emergency Services Softball Tournament Saturday 04-March starting at 09:00. Four teams participated this year and the weather was beautiful for the players and families who attended. St John's Fire Dept won the winning trophy with the City of Charleston Fire Dept Team grabbing the second place award. Click here for more information.

03/March/2017 – MVC with entrapment – “A” Shift

A 42 yr old female was transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center Friday afternoon 03-March following a high speed MVC on Jacksonboro Road south of Cottageville. At 15:25, Firefighter-Paramedics found the small Saturn down an embankment with the woman trapped inside. Apparently the northbound car left the roadway and struck several trees on the southbound side of the road. Click here for more information.

We have been notified by SCDOT that they will be replacing the Bridge in the 800 block of Pellum Road beginning on 13-March. The construction is expected to be completed around 02-June. When responding to incidents on Pellum Road, you will need to access numbers 1-873 and Winding Creek Road from Sniders Hwy. Numbers 874-1270, Solomon Lane and Poets Retreat will need be accessed from Cane Branch Road.

02/March/2015 – Patches and Firefighters Read for Dr. Seuss’ Birthday

Patches and Deputy Chief Greene read the Dr. Seuss classic, “The Cat in the Hat” to the entire second grade at Forest Hills Elementary School Wednesday morning 02-March. The event was held to celebrate the author, Theodor Seuss Geisel’s birthday and to encourage reading. Geisel was a poet, writer and cartoonist, who wrote many children’s books under the name Dr. Seuss.  Personnel arrived at 08:30 to set up the large room for the 09:30 program. 02/March/2017 – Fatal MVC with entrapment – “B” Shift

A 62 yr old Virginia man died from injuries received in a single car MVC on I-95 near the 63 mile marker southbound, Thursday morning 02-March at 04:12. Firefighter-Paramedics found the Ford Explorer near the tree line. The car left the roadway in light rain, drove down an embankment at a high rate of speed and struck several trees causing heavy damage to the small SUV. Click here for more information.
