30/April/2026 - MVC w ejection and Air Evac - "C" Shift

An adult  was seriously injured in a single car MVC on Green Pond Hwy. (SC Hwy 303) near Cyrus Lane Thursday morning 30-April at 05:15. The driver advised they swerved to avoid a deer causing the SUV to flip over. Bystanders indicated the person was ejected from the car which received heavy damage. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the patient at the scene then transported emergent to the CARE Flight base in Walterboro. Click here for additional information.
29/April/2026 - MVC with Air Evac - "C" Shift

Two people were injured, one seriously, in a two vehicle collision in the 16000 block of ACE Basin Parkway (US Hwy. 17) Wednesday afternoon 29-April at 16:03. A Toyota Highlander collided with a Ford Focus in front of the Dollar General. The driver of the Focus received multiple injuries and reportedly was unconscious following the collision. Firefighter-Paramedics from Medic 6 and Engine 6 treated both patients at the scene. They requested a second Fire-Rescue ambulance and a medical helicopter. Click here for additional information.
25/April/2026 - Woods Fire - “A” Shift 

Drought conditions, low humidity, and gusty winds on Saturday, led to a previously contained fire to escape containment lines. The original fire occurred on Tuesday afternoon (Incident # CCFR2603373) and the South Carolina Forestry Commission (SCFC) spent three days after the initial fire reinforcing fire breaks. On Saturday, the SCFC Telecommunications Center received a report from concerned citizens that smoke in the area was heavier than previous days. SCFC requested Fire-Rescue to respond and check the area. First arriving units noted a large wall of fire rapidly moving through the dry vegetation. Click here for additional information.
24/April/2026 - Shooting Incident - "C" Shift

An adult received a gunshot wound during an incident at 601 Green Pond Hwy., Walterboro Village Apartments Friday evening 24-April at 21:32. The patient was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics then transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 1 to the Trauma Center at HCA Trident Hospital in North Charleston. 22/April/2026 - Battalion Chief Promotion and Volunteer Coordinator Announcement  

The Fire-Rescue Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Captain Matthew Smart to Battalion Chief. Battalion Chief Smart officially takes the reins for “B” shift today, April 22. Congratulations, Chief Smart! 

Battalion Chief Brent Dalton, formally “B” shift supervisor, has been reassigned to serve as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Fire-Rescue Department. This much needed position will enhance the way Fire-Rescue recruits, trains, and retains volunteer personnel.

21/April/2026 - Structure / Woods Fire - “A” Shift 

 Fire-Rescue responded to the 700 block of Bedon Road for a reported grass fire. C114, who was returning from another fire in the Cottageville area, arrived on scene just minutes after dispatch and noted a doublewide mobile home with fire on the A/D corner and an uncontrolled grass fire. A structure fire response was requested. After completing a 360 the incident commander noted the fire was rapidly spreading into the wooded area beside the home, threatening additional structures. Engine 19 arrived on scene and deployed hoselines to attack the house fire. Click here for additional information.
21/April/2026 - Logging Equipment / Woods Fire - “A” Shift 

Fire-Rescue responded to the 4000 block of Sunrise Road for a reported Skidder Fire. Engine 7 arrived on scene minutes later and located a fully involved piece of logging equipment well off the roadway. Several other pieces of logging equipment were threatened due to a rapidly moving woods fire. Fire apparatus was not able to access the off road location due to cut logs and other debris. The South Carolina Forestry Commission was contacted and a request for Forestry Firefighters equipped with plows were requested.  Crews deployed multiple supply lines and handlines to access the fire. 20/April/2026 - Structure / Woods Fire - “C” Shift 

Fire-Rescue responded to the 9000 block of Augusta Highway for a reported structure fire. Engine 26 arrived moments later and reported a 10 x 10 shed fully involved and a spreading woods fire on both sides of Augusta Highway. Augusta Highway was closed and the South Carolina Forestry Commission was requested to respond a plow. Firefighters deployed multiple handlines to combat the fire. The fire was brought under control and extinguished. SCFC arrived on scene and deployed the plow to secure a line around both fires. Click here for additional information.
04/April/2026 - MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift

Multiple people were injured when two parked vehicles were struck by a semi-truck near the 55 mile marker northbound Saturday morning 04-April at 05:04. The passenger cars were parked in the breakdown lane near the bridge entering the Great Swamp. They were struck in the rear by the northbound semi-truck. One vehicle was thrown into the woods, while the other was pushed into the median side lane on the bridge. Both vehicles contained members of the same family and received heavy damage. 03/April/2026 - Active Shooter Drill

Colleton County Fire-Rescue, Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, Walterboro Police, Walterboro Fire Department, C.A.R.E. Flight, HCA-Colleton Hospital, and the University of South Carolina-Salkehatchie participated in an active shooter drill on Friday, April 3. This training is a huge milestone in community preparedness, as it is the first drill held at the campus.  Leaders from all agencies started meeting last summer in preparation for the event.
