Training

Colleton County Fire-Rescue's training encompasses preparation and review of all of the department's capabilities for approximately 260 volunteer and 70 career staff.  This means that training sessions include: fire suppression (NFPA 1001 Standard), IV therapy, technical rescue, drug calculations, search and rescue, chemical properties, advanced airway management, building construction, weapons of mass destruction identification, ropes and knots, fire extinguishers, management of traumatic injuries, underwater search and rescue, patient decontamination, mobile water supply, emergency vehicle driving, managing medical emergencies (DOT/NHSTA Curriculum), pump operations, and a myriad of other topics.

Equipment

Colleton County Fire-Rescue maintains state of the art training mannequins and modern adjuncts to facilitate a hands on learning process.  Personnel are trained through the South Carolina Fire Academy which holds an IFSAC accreditation and maintains the most comprehensive state fire training facility in the United States (http://www.scfa.state.sc.us/InsideSCFA/index.asp?file=facility.htm).  Colleton County Fire-Rescue is also a state approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training facility and has hosted numerous EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and EMT-Paramedic courses.
