Incident # 26-08777 - An adult bicyclist died after being struck by a car on Sniders Hwy. (SC Hwy 63) just west of the intersection of Cypress Pond Road Saturday evening 17-October. An east bound Tahoe struck the bicycle that was riding in the east lane at approx. 21:45. The bicycle was black and had no lighting or reflective markings. The bicyclist was wearing all dark clothing on the dark rural section of highway. A passing motorist stopped to render aid. Firefighter-Paramedics from Station #1 approx. 2-1/2 miles away, arrived within minutes, however the cyclist suffered multiple traumatic injuries and had no signs of life. The Coroner's Office was requested and responded to the scene. The driver of the Tahoe was not injured. The area of Sniders Hwy was closed for three hours while the Highway Patrol investigated the accident. The Sheriff's Office and Walterboro Police assisted at the scene.
Engine 1, Medic 1 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as Incident Commander.
