Incident # 26-05749 - An adult perished in a three vehicle MVC at the intersection of Jefferies Hwy. (US Hwy 15) and Academy Road Friday morning 10-July at 08:04. All three vehicles were traveling south on Jefferies Hwy. when the incident occurred. The drivers of the two other vehicles received non-life threatening injuries and were transported by Fire-Rescue to HCA Colleton Hospital in Walterboro. The driver of a Toyota received multiple critical injuries in the crash. The driver was not wearing a seat belt. Firefighter-Paramedics placed the CARE Flight medical helicopter on standby and provided care at the scene, however the patient's condition rapidly deteriorated and could not be flown to the Trauma Center. Medic 19 transported the patient emergent to HCA Colleton Hospital where the ED Staff diligently worked to resuscitate the patient. Sadly, they did not survive her injuries. The southbound lanes of Jefferies Hwy. were closed for two hours while the SC Highway Patrol investigated the accident. Sheriff's Deputies detoured traffic during that time until the accident was cleared.
Engine 19, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Captain Tony Keen served as Incident Commander.
