Incident # 26-03994 - Two people were injured, one seriously, in a head-on collision in the 5100 block of Green Pond Hwy. (SC Hwy 303) south of Possum Corner Road Tuesday morning 12-May at 06:38. A NB Toyota Camry collided head-on with a SB Utility Truck, trapping the driver of the Camry. The driver of the pickup truck received non-life threatening injuries and was able to exit the vehicle. The driver of the Camry suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt. Firefighter-Paramedics treated both patients at the scene and used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricate the driver from the Camry. The driver's side doors and the "B" post were removed. The driver was extricated, then transported emergent to the Trauma Center at HCA Trident Hospital in North Charleston by Fire-Rescue Medic 6. Green Pond Hwy in the area of the accident was blocked for 1-1/2 hours. The accident is being investigated by the SC Hwy Patrol.
Engine 6, Medic 1, Medic 6, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 107 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Matt Smart served as Incident Commander.
