08-May-2026 - High Speed MVC - "C" Shift

Incident # 26-03893 - An adult  and three children were injured in a high speed, single vehicle MVC on Augusta Hwy. (SC Hwy 61) at Heavy Feather Lane Friday evening 08-May at 22:29. The southbound passenger car crossed into the northbound lane, where it went down an embankment. The car struck a driveway culvert, became airborne and collided with a power pole, breaking it into several pieces. The small car then jumped a driveway, then struck a parked car, before striking several small trees approx. 15 feet above the ground. The car at some point turned backwards and landed in a pond and filled with water. The occupants were able to escape the car and climbed up the embankment around the pond. A bystander placed them in their car and left the scene. 9-1-1 Operators were able to get the person to stop on Augusta Hwy near Peirce Road so Firefighter-Paramedics could evaluate the patients. A second Fire-Rescue ambulance was assigned to the incident. The patients were treated at the scene, for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. The children were transported to the Shawn Jenkins Children's Trauma Center at MUSC, while the adult was was transported to theTrauma Center at MUSC. There was some confusion on the initial 9-1-1 calls. Some information indicated the people were trapped in the car in the water. Fire-Rescue dispatched divers and the dive team to the location, but they were not needed. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the MVC.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Dive 1, Marine 1 and Battalion 1 responded. Firefighter-EMT Colin Unwin served as incident Commander.
