Incident # 26-02248 - Two adults perished and another was seriously injured in a two vehicle head-on collision on Jefferies Hwy. (US Hwy 15) at Timberwood Road near Canadys Friday morning 20-March. The accident was reported at 05:56. A southbound Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and a northbound Toyota Corolla collided blocking the two lanes of the rural highway. The two unrestrained occupants of the Corolla received multiple traumatic injuries and were trapped in the wreckage. The restrained driver of the pickup received non-life threatening injuries. Firefighter-Paramedics determined the two occupants of the Corolla had no signs of life and requested the Coroner's Office who responded to the location. The driver of the Tacoma was treated at the scene, then transported to HCA Colleton Hospital in Walterboro. Jefferies Hwy. was blocked for several hours while the SC Hwy Patrol and Coroner's Office investigated the MVC.
Engine 5, Engine 19, Engine 26, Medic 19, Medic 26, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as incident Commander.
