Fire-Rescue's Explorers met at Station # 19 to celebrate the 18th year of the Explorers. This year the group listened to three motivational speakers, Lee Stroud RN Director of Clinical Operations at HCA Colleton Hospital, Henry Lewis State EMS Asso Director and former Colleton Explorer, Firefighter-Flight Paramedic Lt. Brandon Broach with the CARE Flight program. Each discussed many aspects of dedication, training, education and passion for a career choice. Following the presentations, HCA Colleton CNO, Dr. Missy Feather, grilled hamburgers and hotdogs for the group.
After lunch, everyone met on the training grounds for a game of kickball. The youth Explorers vs the adults. The adults were looking to reprise their three year winning streak. The youth members outnumbered the adults and the adults lost two players when Medic 19 received a response and had to leave. With only three remaining players, the adults still managed to closely pull off a win for the fourth straight year.
The Firefighter Explorer Post is open to youths ages 14 to 17. They learn the firefighting/emergency medical trade and at age 16 can take some formal SC Fire Academy Training Courses. Anyone interested in the Explorer Program can contact Fire-Rescue Headquarters at (843) 539-1960.
