16/July/2025 - Otter Island Rescue - "C" Shift Incident # 25-05560 - County Fire-Rescue units, Edisto Beach Fire-Rescue units, DNR and the Coast Guard responded to an overturned boat near Otter Island in the Saint Helena sound Wednesday morning 16-July at 06:31. The occupants advised their boat overturned Tuesday evening and they had been stranded for over 12 hours. One occupant suffered a medical emergency following the incident and the other two people were able to keep them on top of the hull during the night. At day break, one occupant located their dry box, was able to retrieve a cell phone and call 9-1-1 for help. Edisto Marine 14 launched from the marina at Edisto Beach. They arrived at the boat and pulled two people to safety. The Coast Guard helicopter used a rescue basket to rescue the person with the medical emergency. They flew the person to the driving range on Edisto Island to meet with County Fire Rescue Medic 20. The patient was treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics, then transported to a Charleston Area hospital. Fire-Rescue Marine 6 launched from Bennetts Point and met with the Edisto Beach Fire-Rescue boat. They transferred the two uninjured people to Marine 6, who transported them back to their vehicle at Bennetts Point. The incident took about three hours. Car 105, Car 107, Medic 6, Battalion 1, Marine 6, Medic 20, Edisto Marine 14, DNR, a Coast Guard helicopter and St. Pauls Fire Dept responded . |
