23/May/2025 - Fatal MVC - "A" Shift

Incident # 25-04127 - At 00:07 Saturday morning 24-May, a passing motorist reported a vehicle on fire on the side of the road at approximately the 1300 block of Benton Farm Road. A Sheriff's Deputy arrived a few minutes later to advise the vehicle was off of the road and appeared to have been in an accident. The Deputy noted the vehicle was fully involved. Engine 1 arrived to find the small car with heavy front end damage, where it had struck a large pine tree. An approximately 1/4 acre woods fire was also burning around the car. Firefighter-Paramedics used one handline to extinguish the fire. While extinguishing the flames, crews discovered the body of a female in the front seat of the car. The Coroner's Office was notified and responded to the scene. Following the Coroner's Office investigation, Firefighters use Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the passenger side door to gain access to the driver. She was transported by the Coroner's Office. It appeared the northbound car had just cleared a curve, when it dropped off of the shoulder and over-corrected, causing the vehicle to lose control. The vehicle crossed into the ditch on the southbound side of the road, entered the woods and struck the large pine tree. The accident is being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol.

Engine 1, Medic 1 and Car 111 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Brian Bishop served as Incident Commander.
