26/April/2025 - High Speed MVC with Fire - "A" Shift Incident # 25-03365 - A 19 yr old male was critically injured in a single vehicle high speed MVC in the 300 block of Jacksonboro Road Saturday afternoon at 16:26. The northbound passenger car reportedly hydroplaned on the wet pavement, crossed the road and struck a tree. The car received heavy damage and caught fire. Fortunately several passing motorists stopped and together, they worked to pull the injured teen from the burning car, saving his life. The teen suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including multiple open fractures to both legs and one arm. He received burns to his legs. He would not have been able to escape the car without their assistance. Fire-Rescue units arrived about 10 minutes later to the rural secondary road east of Jacksonboro. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man's injuries at the scene, then transported him emergent to the Trauma Center at MUSC. No medical helicopters could fly due to poor weather conditions. Engine 9 deployed one handline to extinguish the fire and a burning tree. The car was completely destroyed. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the MVC. Engine 6, Engine 9, Rescue 1, Medic 9, Medic 6, Battalion 1 and Car 104 responded. Lt. Brian Drew served as Incident Commander. |
