Fire-Rescue participated in several ways in the 50th annual Colleton County Rice Festival which took place this past week in and around Walterboro. The bulk of the festival took place on Hampton Street near the courthouse and city hall. The City of Walterboro closed the 100-300 blocks of Hampton Street, the downtown parking lot and the field behind City Hall. Fire-Rescue set up a booth to hand out safety materials and staffed Emergency Medical Response units for the festival. Medic 106 stood by for the entire event and the four wheeler and side by side were also on hand to navigate the crowded streets. Medical response units were also at the 5K run Saturday morning. Several units participated in the parade on Saturday morning and Ladder 19, Engine 1 and Tender 1 assisted the Citadel Club with the duck race on Ireland Creek Saturday. Law Enforcement was on hand and had a rather peaceful event. A good time was had by all.
