Incident # 24-02897 - A three vehicle, high speed MVC on Interstate 95 near the 46 mile marker northbound, critically injured one man and sent four other people to Colleton Medical Center for treatment. The accident occurred Saturday evening 13-April at 20:45. Two northbound passenger cars collided, sending one into the woods where it also struck a tree and the other remained in the lane of traffic. This area of I-95 is rural and has no street lights. The second vehicle was damaged and had no lights on, but remained in the travel lane. It was struck by the third vehicle, which was traveling at Interstate speeds, causing substantial damage to the rear of the car. The front seat passenger was critically injured. Medic 19 began transporting the critical patient to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center with two additional Firefighter-Paramedics on board to assist with his care. CARE Flight had just completed a flight and met Medic 19 at the helipad at CMC. The patient received life saving whole blood and advanced airway care prior to being flown to Trident. The northbound lanes of Interstate 95 were blocked for over an hour causing traffic to back up several miles. Traffic detoured to Hendersonville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) and Lowcountry Hwy.
