13/January/2024 - MVC with Entrapment - "B" Shift

Incident # 24-00385 - Two people were trapped following a high speed single vehicle MVC on Hendersonville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) at the intersection of Public Landing Road north of the Town of Yemassee, Saturday morning 13-January at 00:39. The small pickup truck left the roadway, crossed the ditch and struck several trees, with a portion of one tree landing on the roof of the truck. The driver and passenger were both trapped in the truck. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived quickly and began treating both patients. One additional Fire-Rescue ambulance was requested. Crews stabilized the truck, then used Holmatro Pentheon Rescue Tools to extricate the female occupant from the truck. She was transported to Colleton Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries by Medic 1. Crews continued to use rescue tools to extricate the male patient from the truck, which took approximately 15 more minutes. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Once freed, he was transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 13 to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. No medical helicopters were immediately available. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. 

Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 13, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
