29/November/2023 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift

Incident # 23-09127 - A family of four was displaced following a fire in their home in the 100 block of Akins Ln Wednesday afternoon 29-November at 17:17. Engine 13 arrived to find heavy fire conditions at the front of the single story wood frame structure. The electrical service line to the building had fallen in the yard and energized a car that was being worked on in the yard. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed two handlines to the building and quickly knocked down the fire on the exterior of the home. They then made entry through the front door to extinguish the fire inside the structure. The fire started from an interior electrical circuit in the wall near the breaker box and spread into the main room of the house and the attic.Crews worked for about 15 minutes to control the fire inside the residence. They were able to contain most of the fire damage to the two front rooms, however the remainder of the home suffered from smoke and heat damage. Many personal items were saved. The occupants noticed the fire and were able to safely exit the home, so no injuries were reported. The service line burned in half and fell in the yard. The line energized a car in the yard and continued to arch until crews from Coastal Electric Company were able to disconnect the power. The car eventually caught fire as well and suffered substantial damage. Units were on the scene for three hours. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
