16/October/2023 - Fall with Air Evac - "A" Shift

Incident # 23-07896 - An adult male was severely injured in a fall Monday evening 16-October. At 19:14, Colleton County 9-1-1 was notified of the incident which occurred in Bamberg County. The worker was on a crew assembling a metal carport when he fell and sliced his arm on the metal sheeting. The man received a deep laceration with severe bleeding. His co-workers attempted to control the bleeding, placed him in a truck and drove into Colleton County seeking help. They drove to the intersection of Confederate Hwy (SC Hwy 641) and Broxton Bridge Hwy. (US Hwy 601). Fire-Rescue crews met them there and immediately began treating the man's injuries. Tourniquets and bandages were applied, along with the administration of IV fluids, whole blood and TXA. A medical helicopter was requested and CARE Flight responded to the scene. The man was transferred to the Flight Crew, then flown to a Charleston Area Trauma Center for further treatment. 

Engine 18, Engine 23, Medic 18 and Battalion 1 responded. Captain Doug Mixson Jr. served as Incident Commander.
