02/October/2023 - Structure Fire - "B" Shift

Incident # 23-07454 - Several buildings and vehicles were damaged or destroyed following a fire at 12131 Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63) in Islandton Monday afternoon 02-October. At 15:12 Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to a fire alarm activation at the location. Just prior to units arriving, 9-1-1 received several reports of a building on fire. The incident was upgraded to a structure fire. Engine 15 arrived to find one garage fully involved, a second garage approximately 50% involved, a third large storage building on the adjacent property beginning to burn, a small storage building with fire on one side, two vehicles involved and a residential dwelling exposure. Firefighters deployed multiple handlines to the garages and requested a second alarm for additional personnel and Tenders. Additional handlines were deployed to extinguish the fire on the adjacent property and protect the home. Crews were able to stop the advance of the fire in the neighboring storage building and the second garage. The storage building received moderate damage and the second garage suffered substantial damage. The first garage was destroyed, as well as two vehicles, a tractor and many tools and farm implements. There was no damage to the residence. The occupant advised he had worked on a pickup truck in the garage and left to obtain a part to complete the repairs. The fire occurred while he was away. The fire appears to have started in that area. No injuries were reported. Fire-Rescue units were on the scene for four hours. Sniders Hwy was down to one lane for the duration of the incident while Tenders supplied water for the firefighting effort. The Sheriff's Office provided traffic control.
