19/September/23 - U-Haul Van vs Mobile Home MVC - "A" Shift

Incident # 23-07131 - Traffic on I-95 Southbound was backed up over five miles following a collision near the 52 mile marker Tuesday afternoon 19-Sept at 15:33. A southbound mobile home was being transported when the vehicle experienced a problem with an axle. The truck pulling the mobile home pulled into the breakdown lane and the driver, as well as the escort vehicle's driver crawled under the mobile home in an effort to make repairs. While working on the axle, the mobile home was struck by a fully loaded U-Haul box van. The impact ripped approximately two feet off of the mobile home and tore the side off of the U-Haul box, spilling the contents onto the Interstate covering all lanes and a portion of the median. Several other vehicles struck the debris and received damage to their cars. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later and found that no one was injured. Firefighter-Paramedics used shovels and fire rakes to clear one lane of debris to open up one SB lane of I-95. Debris covered approx. 1/8 of a mile. The SC Highway Patrol and State Transport Police are investigating the MVC. The Sheriff's Office assisted with traffic control. SCDOT units also responded to the scene.

Engine 1, Medic 1 and Car 112 responded. Captain Bryan Eadon served as Incident Commander.
