06/September/2023 - Fatal MVC - "C" Shift

Incident # 23-06805 - An adult female was fatally injured when the bicycle she was riding was struck by a car on a dark rural section of Peurifoy Road Wednesday night 06-September at 20:14. The woman, an adult male and a small child were all riding separated bicycles east bound in the 900 block of Peurifoy Road just west of Henry Street. The rural road was dark and was not equipped with street lights. The bicycles also were not equipped with lighting. An eastbound passenger car rounded a curve and did not have time to react to the person in the road. The vehicles collided and the woman was thrown into the ditch with multiple traumatic injuries. The other two cyclists and the driver of the car were not injured. Several other motorists stopped to assist. Fire-Rescue Medic 6 was returning from the hospital and was only a few blocks away. They arrived within minutes and began treating the woman. She went into cardiac arrest shortly after being placed into the ambulance. Three additional Firefighter-Paramedics assisted the crew enroute to Colleton Medical Center. The patient did regain pulses enroute to CMC, however she succumbed to her injuries after arriving at the ED. Peurifoy Road in the area of the accident was closed for two hours to allow SCHP Troopers to investigate the MVC.

Engine 19, Medic 6, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
