03/September/23 - MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift

Incident # 23-06720 - An adult male suffered multiple traumatic injuries when the pickup truck he was driving left the roadway and overturned Sunday afternoon 03-September at the intersection of Sunrise Road (SC Hwy 217) and Johnsville Road east of the Town of Smoaks. At 16:41, a caller to 9-1-1 reported the truck weaving. It entered the ditch and overturned a short time later, trapping the man in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived shortly to find the vehicle on its side blocking the intersection. The load of contraction materials including thousands of nails and screws were in the road. They stabilized the truck and used Holmatro Hydraulic Rescue Tools and a Glassmaster tool to remove the windshield to extricate the driver. He was treated at the scene, then transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston by Fire-Rescue Medic 7. The intersection was closed for several hours until the debris could be cleaned up. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Engine 7, Engine 18, Medic 7, Medic 18, Rescue 18, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Lt. David Sauls served as Incident Commander.
