31/March/2023 - MVC with Entrapment & Air Evac - "C" Shift

Incident # 23-02334 - An adult male was seriously injured in a single vehicle MVC in the 5900 block of Cottageville Hwy. (US Hwy 17-A) just north of Merrick Dr., Friday evening 31-March at 19:07. The southbound Toyota Solara dropped off of the roadway, over-corrected and went down an embankment striking a tree in the driver's door. The adult male driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was trapped in the wreckage. Several bystanders and an off-duty St. Paul's Firefighter stopped to render aid. Fire-Rescue arrived a short time later and stabilized the vehicle. Crews used Holmatro Hydraulic Rescue Tools to free the driver. He was extricated with full spinal precautions, then transported in Fire-Rescue Medic 9 to a nearby field on Round O Road to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter. The patient was transferred to the Flight crew without incident and flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Traffic on Cottageville Hwy was blocked for about 45 minutes. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. 

Engine 19, Medic 9, Medic 19, Battalion 1, Car 111 and Car 112 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Brent Spearman served as Incident Commander.
