24/March/2023 - MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift

Incident # 23-02122 - Three people were injured, one critically in a three vehicle MVC on Beach Road at Shady Oaks Ln. Friday morning 24-March at 07:53. An eastbound Chevrolet pickup truck failed to negotiate a curve and struck a westbound DOT belt loader. The belt loader operator drove off of the road in an effort to avoid the collision, but the pickup truck struck the loader, damaging a rear tire. The truck then lost control and struck a westbound DOT pickup truck head-on in the eastbound lane. The two restrained occupants in the DOT pickup were both injured with non-life threatening injuries. The unrestrained driver of the Chevrolet received multiple traumatic injuries and a head injury. A second Fire-Rescue ambulance was assigned to the incident and a medical helicopter was placed on standby. Firefighter-Paramedics treated all of the patients at the scene. Fire-Rescue Medic 1 transported the most serious patient emergent to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the CARE Flight helicopter. The patient was flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. The other two patients were transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 26 to Colleton Medical Center. Beach Road at Shady Oaks Ln was closed for about an hour until the vehicles could be removed. The accident is being investigated by the SC HIghway Patrol. 

Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 26 and Car 111 responded. Captain Jack Wimberly served as Incident Commander.
