22/March/2023 - High Speed MVC - "C" Shift

Incident # 23-02090 - A Florida man is fortunate to be alive after a high speed MVC on Interstate 95 near the 47 mile marker northbound. The accident occurred at 19:47 in front of the Rest Area. According to witnesses, a Toyota pickup truck was traveling northbound in the median side lane when traffic began to stop, due to construction near the 48 mile marker. The pickup truck made an abrupt move across both lanes toward the shoulder. The vehicle struck the rear of a slowing tractor trailer, driving under the trailer. The collision caused heavy damage to the small pickup truck which stopped in the breakdown lane. The entire driver's side of the pickup truck was torn away in the crash. Debris littered the scene and blocked one north bound lane. The adult male driver was wearing a seatbelt and immediately exited the damaged truck. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived a short time later and treated the man for non-life threatening injuries. The patient denied ambulance transport to the hospital. The tractor trailer driver was not injured. One northbound lane was blocked for two hours until the accident could be cleared. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
