Colleton County Fire-Rescue

09/25/2022 - 10/01/2022

25/Sept through 01/October - Hurricane Ian

During the last week of September and the early October, the EOC was staffed to manage the effects of Hurricane Ian. After battering Florida as a high Category four storm, Ian reemerged in the Atlantic and formed as a Category 1 storm. Impacts were forecast to strike anywhere along the SC Coast. The storm made landfall near Georgetown, well north of Colleton County. We saw very little damage from the storm. The EOC received 72 reports of damage from Hurricane Ian.  One of those damage reports involved a residence, but fortunately, there were no injuries.  We thank our SCDOT, Colleton County Public Works, and ESF-12 (Energy) partners. All of the damage reports have been cleared.  These crews will be working throughout the weekend and into the first of next week picking up debris and restoring power to areas with outages.  There were less than 800 power outages in Colleton County as of Friday evening.

The Town of Edisto reports minor impacts and we have no pending unfilled resource requests.

The EOC returned to OpCon 3 at 17:00 Friday. Staff worked remotely overnight and throughout the weekend to coordinate any issues or resource requests that occurred.
