Incident # 22-02825 - An adult male was killed Thursday evening after being struck by a tractor trailer on I-95 just south of August Hwy. (SC Hwy. 61) The incident was reported to 9-1-1 at 20:01 Thursday evening 14-April. The tractor trailer pulled to the breakdown lane and also called 9-1-1. Witnesses stated the man stepped into the roadway. Callers could not advise the exact location. Emergency responders searched the median from mile marker 72 north and south, before locating the man in high grass at the cable barrier between Augusta Hwy and the entrance ramp to I-95. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries and had no signs of life. One lane of I-95 southbound was closed for 2 hours while the SC Highway Patrol and Coroner's Office completed their investigations. The two truck drivers were ont injured. The Coroner's Office transported the victim.
Engine 5, Engine 26, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Chris Jones served as Incident Commander.
