05/April/2022 - Fatal MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift

Incident # 22-02573 - Two Colleton County men were killed in a two vehicle head-on collision in the 5800 block of Ritter Road near Tall Tree Ln Tuesday afternoon 05-April at 17:06. The high speed impact caused heavy damage to both passenger cars. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt. The adult male driver of the eastbound Toyota Solara was partially ejected from the car. The Solara also caught fire. A 17 year old passerby extinguished the fire prior to arrival of Fire-Rescue units. The adult male driver of the westbound Mercury Grand Marquis was trapped in the wreckage. Fire-Rescue units arrived to find Ritter Road blocked by the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics evaluated both patients, but neither had any signs of life. The Coroner's Office was notified and responded to the scene. Firefighters used Holmatro Pentheon Rescue Tools to remove the driver's door of the Marquis to free the driver. Both men were transported by the Coroner's Office. Ritter Road was blocked for about 1-1/2 hours. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Sheriff's Deputies assisted with traffic control. 

Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 6, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Captain Brian Eadon served as Incident Commander.
