02/April/2022 - High Speed MVC - "C" Shift

Incident # 22-02483 - An adult male was seriously injured in a single vehicle high speed MVC at the intersection of Augusta Hwy. (SC Hwy 61) and Pierce Road Saturday evening 02-April. The accident was reported at 20:31 when a passerby noticed a fire in the woods approximately 150 feet from the highway. They turned around to investigate and found a Ford Ecosport overturned, well off of the roadway with engine burning. They found an adult male laying on the ground with multiple traumatic injuries. The Ecosport had been traveling north on Pierce Road when it failed to stop at the stop sign. The vehicle jumped over Augusta Hwy, went down an embankment on the other side and collided with a tree causing heavy damage to the small car. The unrestrained driver was ejected from the car through the top of the driver's door. The fire was out when Fire-Rescue units arrived. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man at the scene, then transported him emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 9 to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston with additional personnel on board to assist with his care. The actions of the motorist may have well saved the man's life. It is unlikely the vehicle would have been seen until daylight the following day. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 36, Tender 9, Medic 9, Battalion 1, Car 102 and Car 112 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
