05/March/22 - Structure Fire - "B" Shift

Incident # 22-01742 - A large open garage and workshop was heavily damaged by an afternoon fire in the 400 block of Pellum Rd Saturday afternoon 05-March. At 15:36, 9-1-1 received reports of the building being on fire. The property owner was able to free several dogs in a kennel inside the garage. One dog was injured in the fire. Firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the building on arrival, as well as an approximately 1/2 acre woods fire. Crews deployed several handlines to extinguish the fire. Firefighters had the fire under control in about 20 minutes, but were on the scene for 1-1/2 hours performing overhaul. The Forestry Commission also responded with one tractor and cut a fire line around the perimeter of the fire. The cause of the fire appears to have been a heating lamp near the dog kennel, which spread to the building and then to the woods behind the building.

Engine 1, Engine 8, Tender 1, Tender 4, Tender 8, Brush 8, Brush 31 and Battalion 1 responded. Firefighter Andrew McCaskill served as Incident Commander.
