27-February-2021 - MVC with Entrapment - "C" Shift

Two people were seriously injured and one was trapped in a two vehicle MVC on Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63) at Hendersonville Hwy. (US Hwy. 21) Saturday afternoon 27-February at 16:22. A Lexus sedan pulled in front of a north bound pickup causing the vehicles to collide in the intersection. The front seat female passenger in the Lexus was trapped in the car. Fire-Rescue units stationed two blocks away arrived within minutes and began treating the injured. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the front door to extricate the woman. 19/February/2021 - Fatal MVC with Entrapment - "A" Shift

An Allendale woman lost her life and a 15 yr. old male was injured in a single vehicle, high speed MVC in the 500 block of Confederate Hwy. (SC Hwy 641) Friday evening 19-February. Another motorist reported the collision at 18:15 advising the driver was trapped and the injured teenager was walking near the car. Fire-Rescue units arrived several minutes later to find the 2004 Toyota Avalon against a tree with heavy damage. It appeared the car was traveling toward Allendale when it lost control, over-corrected and slid sideways into the tree. Click here for more information.
19/February/2021 - Assisted Evacuation Ivanhoe Apartments - "A" Shift

County Fire-Rescue and Sheriff's Deputies assisted City of Walterboro responders evacuating some residents from the Ivanhoe Apartments at 311 Ireland Creek Dr. Friday morning 19-February. At 10:37, WPD requested assistance with transporting residents who were unable to leave their apartments due to flooding. Heavy rains in the past week have caused several rivers and creeks to flow past their banks blocking roads and stranding residents. Click here for more information.
19/February/2021 - Tractor Trailer MVC - "A" Shift

A truck driver lost two fingers when his semi-truck rolled over on I-95 at the 44 mile marker southbound Friday morning 19-February at 09:04. According to witnesses, the truck swerved to avoid a car who changed lanes in front of him and entered the median. The truck lost control in the wet median and overturned. Bystanders assisted the man out of the truck. When Fire-Rescue units arrived they began treating his injuries. Firefighters removed the windshield and searched the cab until they recovered the missing digits.  Click here for more information.
18/February/2021 - Fatal MVC with Double Entrapment - "C" Shift

An adult male was killed and a 13 yr old female received multiple traumatic injuries in a multi-vehicle collision on I-95 near the 59 mile marker southbound Thursday evening 18-February at 12:34. The driver of the utility truck was parked in the breakdown lane behind a disabled tractor trailer attempting to change a tire on the semi-truck. He had just crawled from under the trailer when the collision occurred. The driver was knocked away from the truck, but did not receive any injuries. The tractor trailer driver was also not injured. The southbound GMC Sierra pickup truck that was pulling a trailer, veered into the breakdown lane. Click here for more information.
13/February/2021 - MVC with Entrapment - "A" Shift

An adult female suffered non-life threatening traumatic injuries after her Jeep left the roadway on Interstate 95 near the 56 mile marker northbound Saturday evening 13-Feb at 20:02. The car entered the median at a high rate of speed and struck several trees causing damage to the front and driver's side. The woman was trapped in the wreckage. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later and used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the driver's door to extricate the patient.  She was transported to Colleton Medical Center for further treatment. 10-February-2021 - Burn Patient - "A" Shift

At 17:49 Wednesday afternoon 10-February, Fire-Rescue units were sent to 8 Viola Ct. for a report of a child being burned following a mini bike accident. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived minutes later to find the mini bike still on fire in the yard. They began treating an eight year old male for second and third degree burns to his right leg. Other crew members extinguished the burning motorcycle. Bystanders advised the child had been riding the mini bike when it exploded and caught fire, which then set the boy's clothes on fire. 10-February-2021 - MVC with Entrapment - "A" Shift

An adult male received multiple injuries after the delivery truck he was driving overturned on I-95 near the 53 mile marker southbound Wednesday morning 10-February. The large box style truck was traveling south when it left the roadway and overturned. The side and roof of the box portion failed dumping part of the load of beer and wine onto the shoulder of the highway. Firefighter-Paramedics used hand tools to remove the windshield to extricate the driver. He was stabilized at the scene, then transported to Colleton Medical Center. Click here for additional information.
10-February-2021 - Fatal MVC with Ejection - "C" Shift

A New York man was killed in a single vehicle high speed MVC on I-95 near the 51 mile marker southbound Wednesday morning 10-February at 00:38. Fire-Rescue units arrived to find the Chevrolet van overturned in the median. The vehicle had been traveling southbound, left the roadway and flipped over multiple times leaving a large debris field. The unrestrained driver was ejected from the van. Firefighter-Paramedics and Sheriff's Deputies searched the dark area and found the driver approx. 50 feet south of the accident site under the side door of the van near the wood line. 09/February/2021 - Fatal Structure Fire - "B" Shift

At 04:35 Tuesday morning 09-February, Fire-Rescue units were notified of a structure fire with possible entrapment in the 100 block of Ann Court. Engine 26 arrived about 8 minutes later to find the single story wood frame structure approx. 60% involved with heavy fire showing throughout the structure. The roof had already collapsed in the rear of the building. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple hand lines to the buildings and one team was able to enter a front room through a window to perform a quick search of the room.  Click here for more information.

08/February/2021 - Fatal Motorcycle MVC with Air Evac - "B" Shift

An adult male received fatal injuries and an adult female was critically injured when the motorcycle they were riding struck a hog in the 12800 block of Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy. 63) Monday evening 08-February at 19:32. The motorcycle was traveling northbound on the dark stretch of rural highway when it collided with the large black animal. Both occupants on the motorcycle were thrown into the highway, with the male landing in the southbound lane. A southbound passenger car struck the man after he fell from the motorcycle. 07/February/2021 - Structure Fire - "C" Shift

A Walterboro family lost their home in an early morning fire at 312 King Street Sunday 07-February. At 02:54 9-1-1 received a report of the fire, with the caller telling dispatchers the home had flames visible. The family was awakened by smoke and flames in the home and narrowly escaped into the rainy night. Engine 1 arrived to find the home approximately 60 percent involved. Firefighter-Paramedics deployed multiple hand lines to the building as flames began extending out of all the front windows. The roof over the car port had already collapsed.
