26/December/2021 - MVC - "B" Shift

Incident # 21-00917 - An adult female received serious injuries in a two vehicle accident in the 23900 block of Lowcountry Hwy (US Hwy 21) Sunday evening 26-Dec at 16:14. Traffic was bumper to bumper on US Hwy 21 as traffic was attempting to avoid stop and go traffic on I-95. Two southbound vehicles were attempting to pass slower traffic when they collided causing a minivan to leave the roadway and strike a utility pole on the southbound shoulder.  The pole was broken in half, resulting in the upper portion tilting into the wood line and setting the trees on fire. The adult female was reported to have been unconscious following the accident. The other vehicle, a Ford pickup truck went off of the southbound shoulder into the woods. Fire-Rescue units arrived minutes later and requested a medical helicopter. The CARE Flight helicopter was on another response and the second helicopter had an extended ETA. Fire-Rescue Medic 7 transported the woman emergent to Colleton Medical Center. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. Lowcountry Hwy was down to one lane for about three hours. Power was out in the area until Dominion crews replaced the pole. The accident is being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol.

Engine 7, Tender 7, Medic 7, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 112 responded. Lt. David Sauls served as Incident Commander.
