03-December-2021 - MVC with Air Evac - "C" Shift

Incident # 21-08663 - A single vehicle accident sent an adult male to a Trauma Center Friday morning 03-December. At 10:33 9-1-1 received several calls reporting an overturned SUV on Jefferies Hwy. (US Hwy 15) at Moyer Lane. The callers advised the SUV flipped over several times. Engine 19 arrived to find the SUV lying on its roof. The northbound vehicle left the roadway, struck a power pole breaking it in half, rolled over several times, coming to rest upside down on Moyer Lane. The power pole held the school warning lights which fell into the roadway. The cables block all four lanes of Jefferies Hwy. The restrained driver was still inside the car suffering from multiple injuries, including a head injury. He was treated at the scene and removed from the vehicle with spinal precautions. A medical helicopter was placed on standby. The patient was moved to Fire-Rescue Medic 19, then transported emergent to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center. He was transferred to the Flight Crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Firefighter-Paramedics used bolt cutters to remove the cables from the downed pole and were then able to clear the cables and warning lights from the roadway. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 19, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 103, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Brian Bishop served as Incident Commander.
