26/September/2021 - High Speed MVC - "A" Shift

Incident # 21-06971 - Three people were injured, two critically, when two vehicles collided head-on in the 400 block of McLeod Road at 13:19 Sunday 26-September. An eastbound Jeep dropped off of the shoulder and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to slide sideways into westbound traffic, striking a westbound Chevrolet Trax head-on. Both occupants of the Chevrolet received life threatening injuries. They were one block from their home. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived to find two heavily damaged vehicles in the westbound ditch. Crews requested two additional Fire-Rescue ambulances and two medical helicopters. All patients were treated at the scene prior to transport. A 70 yr.old man was transported emergent in Fire-Rescue Medic 19 to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center. He was transferred to the CARE Flight Crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center. The 69 yr. old female passenger was transported emergent to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in Fire-Rescue Medic 26 with additional Firefighter-Paramedics on board to assist with her care. The second helicopter was cancelled due to an extended ETA. The third patient was transported by Medic 1 to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. 

Engine 19, Rescue 1, Medic 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Car 112, Car 117 and Car 101 responded. Battalion Chief Scott Feather served as Incident Commander.
