06/September/2018 – Car vs Bike MVC – “A” Shift

Incident # 18-06204 – A adult male riding a bicycle was critically injured after he was struck from behind in the 2800 block of Cottageville Highway (US Hwy 17-A) north of Walterboro. The man was traveling south when he was struck. The impact threw the man over the car and he landed in the roadway, suffering multiple traumatic injuries. An off-duty EMT and Nurse assisted the man prior to Fire-Rescue units arriving at the scene. Firefighter-Paramedics quickly treated his injuries, then rapidly transported him directly to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center. The C.A.R.E. Flight medical helicopter was tied up on another response and was not available. The driver of the car was not injured. The accident is being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol.
