10/April/2016 – Car vs Building – “A” Shift

Incident # 16-02172 – A woman and four children were transported to Colleton Medical Center after a minivan ran into the 100 building at Lincoln Apartments, 404 Witsell Street, Sunday afternoon 10-April. At 13:47, 9-1-1 received a report of the accident reporting the woman and children were trapped in the van. Walterboro Police Officers arrived quickly and determined no one was trapped. After Medic 1 arrived, they began treating the injured and requested a second Medic Unit due to the number of patients. The van received moderate damage, but the building had fairly heavy damage to a least one lower unit and the apartment above it. A brick veneer wall fell on the van, littering the vehicle and parking lot with bricks. Medic 1 transported the woman and one child. Medic 19 transported the remaining three children. All of the children were under the age of four. All injuries were non-life threatening. Walterboro Police Dept. is investigating the accident.

Fire-Rescue Medic 1, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Walterboro Fire Engine 3 and Ladder 1 responded.  WFD Capt. Chris Cook served as Incident Commander.
