| | Incident 15-07038 - A couple and their canine were rescued from a motor
vehicle collision involving a single vehicle on Tuesday night, 01-December
at 20:25.  The vehicle was travelling northbound at the 41 mile marker
on Interstate 95 and, according to S.C. Highway Patrol, experienced a tire
blowout.  The vehicle rolled on its side and came to rest precariously
positioned adjacent to the Salkehatchie Creek.  Both adult patients and
a canine were trapped in the vehicle.  A passerby in a service truck
stopped and connected a chain to the vehicle to keep it from tumbling down
the embankment and potentially into the creek.  Battalion 1 arrived and
also connected a winch cable to further stabilize the vehicle.  Once
stabilized, the vehicle windshield was removed, and the patients were
extricated.  The patients and canine were ambulatory and refused
transport to a medical facility. Engine 1, Medic 13, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, and Car 105 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as the Incident Commander. |
