01/July/2015 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift

Incident # 15-03681 - A North Carolina woman received multiple, non-life threatening traumatic injuries in a high speed roll-over accident on I-95 near the 47 mile marker northbound, just north of the Rest Area. The accident occurred Wednesday morning 01-July at 09:37. The northbound Ford Escape lost control and entered the median at a high rate of speed.  It appeared the car began to flip over as it struck the cable barrier.  The front of the passenger compartment was crushed, trapping the adult female driver. Firefighter-Paramedics stabilized the vehicle with cribbing, jacks and the winch from Car 111. After stabilization, a crewmember crawled  in through the sun roof to begin treating the patient. Other Firefighters used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the crushed front portion of the roof. The driver was wedged in under the steering wheel, so hydraulic cutters were used to remove the back of the driver’s seat and free the patient. She was extricated with spinal precautions, then transported to Colleton Medical Center by Fire-Rescue Medic 1. Northbound and Southbound holiday traffic was backed up for several miles. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 13, Medic 1, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 105, Car 107, Car 116 and Car 111 responded. Deputy Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
