29/June/2014 – Traumatic Injury with Air Evac – “A” Shift

Incident # 14-03847 – A 34 year old man suffered a severe neck injury after falling into shallow water and striking his head. The incident occurred on the Edisto River behind a home in the 300 block of Happiness Lane Sunday afternoon 29-June at 17:19. Bystanders supported the man in the water until Fire-Rescue personnel arrived. With the help of the bystanders, two firefighters placed the man on a back board while he was still in the water. He was then moved to a floating dock approximately six feet away where additional Firefighter-Paramedics removed him from the water and immobilized him to the back board. Due to the severity of his injury, a medical helicopter was requested. The man was treated at the scene, then transported to a field about three miles away to meet with LifeNet 4. The helicopter landed in a field in the 24000 block of Augusta Highway. The patient was transferred to the flight crew without incident and flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston.

Engine 9, Medic 9, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Lieutenant Ray Delonge served as Incident Commander. Lieutenant Jimmy Jacques served as Landing Zone Coordinator.
