18/April/2013 – Triple Shooting Incident – “B” Shift

Incident # 13-02070 – Three people were shot, two critically, at a residence located at 391 Red Comet Road south of Walterboro Thursday evening 18-April at 22:05. Firefighter-Paramedics treated two adult males and an adult female at the scene. A 35 yr old man and a 42 yr old female were both shot multiple times. A 41 year old man also received a non-life threatening GSW to the leg. The 35 yr old man was quickly stabilized at the home, then rapidly transported by Medic 1 directly to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the LifeNet 4 medical helicopter stationed there. He was flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC. A second helicopter, LifeNet 7 from Charleston also responded to Colleton Medical Center to fly Medic 19’s patient. However, due to a slightly extended response time from the Charleston area and the decline of the patient’s condition, the critical patient had to be taken into the ED. Local surgeon, Dr. Stiegler had responded to the ED prior to the arrival of the ambulances and began treating the woman immediately upon her arrival.

She was rushed into surgery at CMC, so LifeNet 7 was not used. The 41 yr old man with the leg injury was transported by Medic 104 and treated in the Emergency Department.  The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

Engine 1, Engine 19, Medic 1, Medic 19, Medic 104, Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 105, Car 111 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
