07/April/2013 – MVC with ejection & Air Evac – “B” Shift

Incident # 13-01822 – A high speed single car MVC sent two people to the hospital Sunday morning 07-April. At 03:37, 9-1-1 was notified of the accident in approximately the 900 block of Tuskegee Airman Drive. Engine 19 and Medic 19 arrived to find a small Ford SUV in the woods. The eastbound vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, went off of the right shoulder, rolled over multiple times striking several trees before coming to rest in the woods. An adult male was ejected from the car and suffered multiple traumatic injuries with periods of unconsciousness. An adult female suffered non-life threatening traumatic injuries. Both patients were immobilized and treated at the scene by Firefighter-Paramedics. A medical helicopter was placed on standby at Colleton Medical Center. Both patients were transported from the scene by Medic 19, who met with the LifeNet 4 helicopter at the Colleton Medical Center helipad. The male patient was quickly transferred to the helicopter, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. 

The female patient was then moved into the ED at Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 19, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-EMT-I James Varnadoe served as Incident Commander.
