31-March-2013 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

Incident # 13-01681 – A David Street home was destroyed in an early morning fire Sunday 31-March at 06:24. Firefighters arrived within minutes after the dispatch to find the single story brick veneer dwelling at 118 David Street approximately 75% involved. The roof on the south portion of the home had already collapsed. Engine 19 initially used a deck gun to knock down the fire, allowing two crews to enter the building with 1-3/4 handlines lines. The fire was quickly brought under control, but firefighters were on the scene for 2-1/2 hours, while investigators remained at the site until early afternoon. The fire was stopped at the kitchen and living room, but the remainder of the home was destroyed. After performing a primary search shortly after arrival, Firefighters determined no one was in the structure. It was later learned the owner was out of town. An investigation into the cause of the fire found the origin to be suspicious in nature. SLED’s Arson Unit dispatched an investigator to the scene. The Sheriff’s Office is also assisting.

Engine 19, Engine 24, Tender 1, Tender 19, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 1, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
