20/January/2013 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

Incident # 13-00364 – A mobile home was damaged in a mid day fire at 12 Chambers Street Sunday 20-January at 11:15. Engine 19 arrived to find light smoke coming from the singlewide mobile home at the corner of Chambers Street and Woodmeadow Drive. A neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from the building. Firefighters made entry through the front door with one 1-3/4 handline and quickly knocked down the fire which was contained to the living room. The living room and kitchen suffered moderate thermal damage, while the remainder of the structure suffered light smoke damage. It appeared the fire started at the sofa from a space heater that placed against the furniture. The sofa was destroyed. Most articles in the living room were damaged from high heat conditions, while most items in the bedrooms were salvageable. Firefighters removed the burned furniture from the home and soaked it down outside to lessen damage to the structure. No one was at home when the fire occurred. Fire units were on the scene for an hour. The Charleston Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.

Engine 19, Engine 26, Tender 1, Tender 9, Tender 19, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
