23-December-2012 / Structure & Equipment Fire / “C” Shift

Incident # 12-06959 – At 10:06, 9-1-1 Operators began receiving calls regarding thick black smoke coming from the American Bio-Mass building located at 36 Clearwater Drive Sunday morning 23-December. The business is a waste disposal facility. Due to the nature of the business in a non-hydranted area, a second alarm was assigned to the incident shortly after dispatch as a precaution. First arriving units found heavy smoke coming from the “D” side of the building. Upon investigation, the fire was found to be under an open addition attached to the side of the block building. Firefighters deployed one 1-3/4 handline and discovered the fire was mostly confined to a small track hoe parked under the addition. Crews quickly knocked down the fire, cooled the exposures and spent approximately 30 minutes overhauling the piece of equipment. The building suffered some structural damage due to the heat, however no hazardous items were involved.
