22/December/2012 – Apparatus MVC – “B” Shift

Incident 12-06944 – Engine 2 was involved in a three vehicle MVC while responding to an incident Saturday afternoon 22-December at 13:41. The Engine was south bound in the 14000 block of ACE Basin Parkway (US Highway 17) in a construction zone, when a vehicle pulled to the right against a concrete barrier. Another vehicle also had to stop, but the Engine collided with the rear of second vehicle a full-sized Ford pickup truck. The Engine then veered into the northbound lane, forcing a tractor trailer into the ditch. The Engine did not impact the tractor trailer, however a piece of equipment was dislodge striking the truck in the battery box. No one was injured in the crash. Engine 2 and the pickup truck both suffered heavy damage. Traffic was tied up for several hours as the wrecked vehicles were removed from the scene.

Engine 2, Battalion 1 and Car 109 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
